You're welcome!

My visit to draw with the awesome kids at Riggs Elementary School was a laugh fest. Thanks for having me! One of my favorite letters from the kids (Ethen) had this to say, "You inspired me to draw kids throwing up". My work here is through.

Backyard Fight Club

I'm always tickled when I have enough time to do personal artwork. This piece is based on a dark and disturbing trend to have bar-b-ques or picnics based on the idea of getting together and fighting. Just like the movie Fight Club but without the pesky script, insurance and attractive actors. Kids are often present. The fights are then sometimes posted on YouTube.
Medium: Watercolor. To get a closer, more detailed view please visit my page on Drawger.
Shakin' It Up!

Studies show that animals can often sense oncoming natural disasters like earthquakes. Animals can also sense when I sneak into the kitchen to make a sandwich. I wish animals would use their esp powers for good and not sandwich-stealing evil. I created the above illustration for the nice folks at Boy's Life magazine.

The Repulsive Mr. Org

In Philip Ardagh's Grubtown Tales, The Repulsive Mr. Org is described as having hair so filthy and greasy that it would be more accurate to say he had hairy grease rather than greasy hair. Here is an actual, unretouched illustration of Mr. Org. Complete with dripping ear wax, greasy hair and vile, horrible breath. But at least he's got a nice personality!
When Bunnies Turn Bad

Grubtown is being overrun by bunnies! Hoards of fluffy, pink nosed, moist eyed bunnies. Everyone loves bunnies, right? But when a marauding gang of bunnies knocks down the town library something must be done. Jilly Cheeter and Mango Claptrap are on the case. Where did the bunnies come from? How does a monkey fit into this mystery? Please note: there is a special appearance by Rumpus Corncrake, the Sun-Ripe Raisin Man. "When Bunnies Turn Bad" is the 7th book in the Grubtown Tales series by Philip Ardagh.
My Weirder School

The madness continues! The My Weird School series continues with a new series - My Weirder School. The first two books are out today and those kooky kids from Ella Mentry School are up to their eyeballs in goofiness. Also, Dan Gutman introduces a new character into the group. You get some fun summer reading and I get to draw crazed squirrels and animals with issues. It's a win-win!
Me versus You!
Hot Off The Presses
If you like puzzles AND enjoy squashing your opponent like a bug then this goofy game book from Klutz could be for you. It's fun to play with a friend or fun for those with a split personality.
1) Select a puzzle.
2) Say "go!".
3) First one to finish wins!
4) Bask in the after glow of victory.
Another "Secrets of a lab Rat"!
In Trudi Trueit's, Secrets of a Lab Rat (book 3), Scab dares to run for class president against his nemesis, Missy Malone, the straight-A know-it-all and teacher's pet. As Missy starts winning over their classmates Scab becomes desperate to win votes. Like the great politicians before him, he decides to have a "You Bring It and He'll Eat It" scarf-a-thon. Scab is willing to bet his iron gut and possibly a lifetime of dysentery to secure the votes he needs. It's a pretty funny book and was a hoot to illustrate.
Hot off the presses

In "Attack of the Bully Bug" by Red Chair Press, Beetle and his six legged pals (and a few grubs and larva buddies) must work as a team if they have any chance of getting rid of Bully Bug - a menacing, hulking pest that takes their lunches and picks on the smaller bugs.
Just as it must be in nature, the bugs form a sort of vigilante "we're not gonna take this anymore" alliance. Unlike real nature, where the bugs would then set upon each other and devour the weakest, these bugs set aside those basic instincts and work for the greater good - get rid of Bully Bug! Can Beetle help free this gentle band of garden insects from the tyranny of the Bully Bug? I like his chances.
Art With Heart

Art with Heart recently asked me to design a cover for their newest book project, entitled “Make Yer Mark!”
The black and white therapeutic activity book is a compilation of pages grafted from “Oodles of Doodles” and “Magnificent Marvelous Me” books, whose specific purpose was to help the third grade classmates of Christina Taylor Green, who was brutally gunned down in the shootings in Tucson, Arizona.
The activities in the workbooks were chosen because of their ability to help the children as they experience feelings of loss and anxiety.
“The workbook doesn’t look like a typical grieving book because we wanted to make sure the kids wouldn’t feel ‘talked down to’,” says Steffanie Lorig, Art with Heart’s Executive Director, “We hope the book helps them feel joy again as they move through the many emotions that go hand in hand with grief.”
Typically, the grieving process takes time and healing usually happens gradually. Thanks to donations given by generous folks, this workbook will be an aid in their continued healing journey.

Fear the Cave Frog!

Sketch Time!
Last week I went with our daughter and her class to a series of caves in southern Arizona. We saw so many stalagmites, stalagtites and crazy rock formations. But we never saw the legendary and elusive Brain Sucking Cave Frog. I hope he didn't croak! We drew lots of cave stuff together on the bus ride home.
Neighbors
Here's a piece I completed just for the fun of it. I enjoy drawing villages and hamlets. I always think of giant cheesewheels, wagons, chickens and unshaven guys in aprons selling sausages. The hunchbacks in my villages are always treated nicely. His pals would rub his hump for good luck and maybe even tossle his filthy, matted hair.
